Used Brake Booster for Medium-Duty Trucks
Hydro-boost and vacuum brake boosters — the cure for a rock-hard pedal and a truck that barely stops.
- Used OEM part
- Tested before shipping
- 30-day warranty
- Ships to the lower 48

A hard pedal that takes both feet to stop a loaded truck is a booster failure — and on most trucks in this class the booster is a hydro-boost unit driven by the power steering pump, not a vacuum can. New hydro-boost units are frequently back-ordered and expensive; remans are hit-or-miss on the accumulator.
We supply used OEM boosters from running donor trucks, checked for assist, accumulator hold and leaks, and covered by our warranty. Fitment is matched to your VIN so the pushrod, mounting and line fittings are right the first time.
Signs your brake booster has failed
- Rock-hard pedal with weak stopping, especially at low speed
- Assist drops out when the steering is at full lock
- Hissing (vacuum) or a whine/pressure drop (hydro-boost) with the pedal applied
- Power steering fluid leaking from the booster body or lines
- No reserve assist after the engine is shut off (accumulator failed)
- Brake fluid on the booster face — master cylinder rear seal
Before you order
- Confirm hydro-boost vs. vacuum and send your VIN — the two are not interchangeable and mounting differs by year.
- Check the power steering pump, fluid and belt first; a weak pump gives the same hard pedal (see our guide).
- Replace the master cylinder if fluid is found on the booster face, and bench-bleed it.
- Bleed the hydro-boost per the manual after installation.

Do I have a hydro-boost or a vacuum booster?
Most diesel medium-duty trucks we cover use hydro-boost (powered by the power steering pump). Some gas trucks use a vacuum booster. We confirm from your VIN.
Why is my pedal hard and my steering heavy at the same time?
One cause: the power steering pump feeds both the steering gear and the hydro-boost. Start with the pump — the pedal usually comes back with it.
