Slipping, no reverse, a burnt-fluid smell, a transmission that won’t come out of limp mode with a good TCM — when it’s the transmission, the choice is a rebuild with a long lead time and an unknown result, a reman at dealer money, or a tested used OEM unit that gets the truck working this week. Isuzu NPR/NQR (Aisin A465), Ford F-450/F-550 (5R110, 6R140 and 10R140 TorqShift), Kodiak/TopKick and GM 4500/5500 (Allison 1000), Ram 4500/5500 (Aisin AS69RC) and Fuso Canter (Duonic dual-clutch) — we stock them.
Our used transmissions are pulled from running donor trucks with documented mileage, checked to shift through every gear, and carry 60–90 days of coverage under our warranty. Fresh fluid and filter at installation are required — and worth it. A refundable core charge is stated on your quote.
Signs your transmission has failed
- Slipping or flaring between gears, especially under load
- No reverse, or a delay engaging drive
- Burnt or dark fluid; metal in the pan
- Grinding or shudder that isn’t the torque converter or a solenoid
- Gear-ratio error codes (P0730–P0736) or pressure faults after the TCM and solenoids check out
- Manual: gear grind, pops out of gear, or bearing roar that changes with the clutch
Before you order
- Send your VIN and note engine, 2WD/4WD and (for Allison/Aisin) the transmission model tag — calibration and bell housing differ by engine and year.
- Confirm the TCM and solenoids aren’t the fault first — a module problem doesn’t need a transmission.
- Warranty requires new seals, fresh fluid, the filter kit, a cooler-line flush and a code reset — see our warranty policy.
- Flush or replace the cooler and decide on the torque converter (quoted with or without) to keep debris out of the replacement.
