Used Steering Gear Box for Medium-Duty Trucks
Steering gear boxes (recirculating-ball steering gears) — the fix for wander, heavy steering and leaks at the sector shaft.
- Used OEM part
- Tested before shipping
- 30-day warranty
- Ships to the lower 48

Most trucks in this class steer with a hydraulic recirculating-ball gear box, not a rack. When the sector-shaft seal starts leaking, the box loses center feel, or the truck wanders across the lane on the highway, drivers compensate until the day it binds. New OEM gears run high; reman quality varies; and for Kodiak/TopKick and older N-series a used OEM gear is often the only OEM option.
Our used OEM gear boxes come from running donor trucks, are checked for sector-shaft play and input-shaft leaks, and ship with our warranty. Because we sell the complete unit, you get the correct ratio and mounting for your truck without adapter kits.
Signs your steering gear box has failed
- Wandering or constant correction at highway speed with good tires and alignment
- Heavy steering at low speed while the pump is quiet and full
- Fluid leaking at the sector shaft (pitman-arm side) or input shaft
- Excess play at the wheel that isn’t in the column, shaft or linkage
- Binding or a tight spot as the wheel passes center
- Fine cold, gets heavy or loose once hot
Before you order
- Send your VIN and note 2WD vs. 4WD, GVWR and wheelbase — gear ratios and mounting differ within the same model.
- Check the pump, belt and fluid first; a tired pump imitates a bad gear (see our steering guide).
- Flush the system and replace the fluid on installation — old contaminated fluid is what killed the original.
- Have the alignment checked after replacement and center the steering wheel with the gear on center.

Isuzu NPR, NQR and NRR; Ford F-450 and F-550; Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 4500HD/5500HD plus Kodiak and TopKick C4500; Ram 4500 and 5500; and Mitsubishi Fuso Canter FE125–FE180. Pick your truck below or send us your VIN.
Is a used Steering Gear Box tested before it ships?
Yes. Every steering gear box we sell is pulled from a running donor truck, inspected and tested before it ships.
How do I get a quote for a used Steering Gear Box?
Use the form on this page or call us. Share your truck and VIN and we confirm exact fitment, then call you back with a price in about 30 seconds during business hours — or email it if we can’t reach you.
Is a used Steering Gear Box covered by a warranty?
Yes, we stand behind this steering gear box with our warranty. Exact terms are confirmed on your quote.
Do you ship a used Steering Gear Box nationwide?
Yes — we ship to all 48 contiguous states with tracked delivery. Most parts arrive in 3–7 business days; engines, transmissions and axles ship freight and typically arrive in 5–10.
Is it a rack and pinion or a gear box?
Almost every truck we cover uses a recirculating-ball gear box (steering gear). Rack-and-pinion is rare in this class. We’ll confirm from your VIN.
How is a used gear box checked?
Every gear is checked for sector-shaft play, input and sector seal leaks, and smooth travel lock-to-lock before it ships.
Will I need an alignment?
Yes. Plan for an alignment and steering-wheel centering after installation; it protects tires and keeps the truck tracking straight.
