Used Intermediate Shaft for Medium-Duty Trucks
Steering intermediate shafts — the u-joint link between column and gear that makes the clunk.
- Used OEM part
- Tested before shipping
- 30-day warranty
- Ships to the lower 48

The clunk you feel in the wheel over bumps or when reversing is very often the intermediate shaft: two universal joints and a slip section between the column and the gear box. When a joint wears or the slip joint seizes, you get play, a notchy feel through center and a noise drivers describe as “something loose in the steering.” On tilt-cab Isuzu and Fuso trucks the shaft also lives in the weather and corrodes.
We stock used OEM intermediate shafts from running donor trucks, checked for joint play and slip-joint movement, at a fraction of dealer list.
Signs your intermediate shaft has failed
- Clunk or knock in the wheel over bumps, turning from a stop, or shifting between drive and reverse
- Notchy or binding feel as the wheel passes center
- Play at the wheel with the gear box and column tight
- Rust-frozen slip joint — steering feel changes as the cab flexes
- Visible wear, rust or a loose u-joint cap on the shaft under the cab
Before you order
- Send your VIN and note tilt-cab vs. conventional and 2WD/4WD — length and joint style differ.
- Mark the shaft-to-gear and shaft-to-column position before removal so the wheel stays centered.
- Check the rag joint/coupling and the gear box input bearing at the same time.
- Torque the pinch bolts to spec and use new bolts where the manual calls for them.

Frequently asked questions
Which trucks do you stock a used Intermediate Shaft for?
Isuzu NPR, NQR and NRR; Ford F-450 and F-550; Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 4500HD/5500HD plus Kodiak and TopKick C4500; Ram 4500 and 5500; and Mitsubishi Fuso Canter FE125–FE180. Pick your truck below or send us your VIN.
Is a used Intermediate Shaft tested before it ships?
Yes. Every intermediate shaft we sell is pulled from a running donor truck, inspected and tested before it ships.
How do I get a quote for a used Intermediate Shaft?
Use the form on this page or call us. Share your truck and VIN and we confirm exact fitment, then call you back with a price in about 30 seconds during business hours — or email it if we can’t reach you.
Is a used Intermediate Shaft covered by a warranty?
Yes, we stand behind this intermediate shaft with our warranty. Exact terms are confirmed on your quote.
Do you ship a used Intermediate Shaft nationwide?
Yes — we ship to all 48 contiguous states with tracked delivery. Most parts arrive in 3–7 business days; engines, transmissions and axles ship freight and typically arrive in 5–10.
Can I grease the joints instead of replacing the shaft?
Sealed joints can’t be regreased; once they have play they need replacing. An inexpensive shaft now saves a gear box input seal later.
Do I need programming or an alignment?
No programming. Mark positions before removal and you won’t need an alignment, but have the steering wheel centered if it isn’t.
